API (Application Programming Interface)

API: an acronym for Application Programming Interface, which is a set of routines, protocols, and tools
for building software applications. The API specifies how software components should interact and
identifies an endpoint through which systems can exchange data (e.g. shopping for availability results or
booking reservations).
