Course Overview

In a competitive hotel market, salespeople need to understand more than their own property. They need to know what is influencing demand, which alternatives customers are considering, how competitors are positioning themselves and where their hotel can offer meaningful value.

This course provides hotel sales professionals with a practical approach to understanding their market and competitive landscape. Participants will learn how to identify relevant competitors for different customer segments and booking occasions, gather intelligence ethically, interpret market trends and use verified evidence to strengthen their hotel’s competitive positioning.

Throughout the course, participants will build a practical Market and Competitor Intelligence workbook for their own hotel. They will use it to create competitor profiles, monitor market signals, benchmark customer perception, develop a positioning statement, prepare a Sales Battle Card and respond professionally to competitor comparisons.

The course also explores how AI tools can support research, analysis and sales preparation—while reinforcing the importance of source verification, confidentiality and professional judgement.

Whether you are developing your hotel-sales skills or looking for a more structured way to understand your market, this course will help you turn competitor information into focused and practical sales action.

  • “Having taken the CHDM certification myself and then being part of a team of industry experts to help update the 2018 Certification, it has become clear to me that that knowledge and understanding of the key topics covered in the certification will benefit everyone; from digital marketers to GM’s and everyone in between as it gives a broad overview of what is required to be a successful for a hotel (or hotelier) in the digital age.”

  • “When I review resumes for openings or am interviewing candidates with similar backgrounds, I feel more confident in choosing applicants with their CHDM certification. I feel like they have taken the time to understand the fundamentals of the industry and how it applies to our hotels, and thus will hit the ground running with a leg up on other candidates.”

Jay Hubbs Senior Vice President E-Commerce, Remington Hotels
  • “When we consider the convergence of multiple disciplines within our industry, revenue management and eCommerce are increasingly finding areas of overlap within the complexity of digital echo system. It is for this reason that revenue managers with CHDM’s become an integral part of an organization due to their ability to improve the discourse as it relates to the digital conversation.”

  • "As a former hotel manager, and regional revenue and distribution manager, I experienced the gap in our industry for a single training resource that accommodated the multitude of hotel staff around me. 'Revenue Ready' is uniquely suited for both entry-level hospitality employees, who may be inspired to steer their career direction toward revenue disciplines, as well as long-time industry sales, marketing, and management personnel who can gain an updated education on the use of revenue and distribution tools. Already, we are seeing revenue directors and general managers utilising the program to validate previous learning and to ensure their teams are using common, correct language around the complex and ever-evolving revenue and distribution management platform landscape. I look forward to watching even more graduates, from all levels, equipping themselves with the knowledge they need to generate more accurate forecasts, to yield more revenue and to ultimately run hotel businesses that are sustainable and profitable."

  • I really enjoyed the program and learned a lot of valuable information about revenue management and the hospitality industry in general. I thought that the checkpoint quizzes worked really well. They were a great way to maintain engagement and test knowledge retention. I would suggest a final test at the end of the course to reinforce the essential concepts and showcase to the participant how much they learned. Thank you again for this resource and I look forward to continuing my engagement with HSMAI! Warmest regards, Mariel Dweck, Sales Coordinator, Global Sales, Shangri-La Hotels, New York
